Mast Lines

I recently purchased a 423. The previous owner wasn't much of a sailor.
Looking at options for organizing the lines at the base of the mast.
The mast has two cleats at the base and a stopper cleat (jib halyard)
There are 4 lines coming down (1) very long jib halyard (2) spinnaker halyard
(3) topping lift (uses cleat) (4) pull line.

Any and all ideas would be greatly appreciated

Hi Dave and congrats on the 423...a great boat. I assume you have the roller furling main. I added a long spin halyard and ran that back to the spinlocks on the cabin top (you may need add some more spinlocks. Did the same for the topping lift. Beneteau was cheap and did not add lugs at the base of the mast for additional blocks. You can improvise by using using an eyebolt and a couple of nuts (under the mast step and on top of the mast step and fashion your own lug where you can attach more blocks. I'm also considering adding another spinlock to the mast for the main halyard (mirroring the jib halyard arrangement).

For other good ideas, join the Beneteau423 owners group on Yahoo. There is a huge amount of the information on the site and it is quite active.

I've got a classic main but some of the line organization applies to both mains. My jib halyard goes through the stopper and is coiled and cleated off on the mast. This line gets undone twice a year so no need to run it back to the cabin top other than once a year when I raise the jib. My spinnaker halyard and vang run back on the starboard side through the spinlocks. With a classic main I have reef lines and those go through the spinlocks on the starboard side as well.

Topping lift is cleated off on the starboard mast cleat.

The additional lines run through the port spinlocks are: main sheet, main halyard and out haul

I would also recommend the 423 owners site - not only great group but a great archive of issues and questions along with answers.
