I have a boat that is very similiar to a Newport or Neptune. It's a late 70's early 80's boat and the title doesn't identify the manufacturer. I bought it from a guy who inherited it from his Dad. The seller told me he thought the boat was overpowered...his Dad was a WWII test pilot...The OAL is 17' and the mast is 23', custom sails were made for the boat. I'm a novice(and that is exaggerating) when it comes to sailing and I'm wondering if there is some rule of thumb for boat length vs. mast length?
