I recently purchased a mast tabernacle for my DS1. The instructions for DS1 installation was to draw two lines, the first 32 12" from the bottom and the second at 34" from the bottom of the mast. When I measured off the mast as described above, it brought me smack dab were the cleat and the two rollers that are permanently installed in the mass. Obviously, I couldn't cut to the specs. Confused and bewildered, I went looking for the specs of the DS1, specifically, mast length. I found a figure of 24' 11" to be the mast length. I then measured my mast and it came in at 24' 71/2". ??? I was now thinking that it was a replacement mast and not the original. It was the only answer I could come up with for the shortage. Further investigation, specifically instruction manual of the DS1 and proposed procedure for mast installation mentioned at the end of its procedures that the last step to stabilizing the mast would be to turn the mastjack until all three stays were tight. The boat does not have a mastjack. It has (name not known) what I call a step where the mast secures itself to the boat. With all of this said, I'm wondering - could my missing 31/2" be this missing mastjack? If the instructions are correct as written, it may not be as it lists specific measurements from the bottom of the mast which I would assume would not include the mastjack which I have not. I was thinking of possibly making one cut so that I could install the tabernacle without removing any of the mast and that would add 13/8" in height to the mast and I believe that would cause me a problem with the stays, not being long enough. Then maybe there could longer tbars outthere that I could add to my turnbuckles.??? Bewildered to say the least. Possibly only answer is to return the tabernacle to D&R. Any ideas out there would certainly be appreciated. Al

Mast length

Al, Why don't you call Rudy and ask him about this? You probably aren't too far from Rudy's shop, you could probably set up a day to trailer the boat down with the mast and he could get it straightened out for you in no time at all. I trailered my 222 to his shop last year so that he could work on my mast. Joe
