I am purchasing a Hunter 30 and would like to know if anyone knows how high the mast is from the water ? It is a fixed Mast and cannot be stepped.. I am planning an inland waterway cruise from Chicago to Alabam down the Miss. and Tom-tenn and up the Warrior river... Any suggestions ? Thanks

1980 Mast Height

From a spec sheet I have, a 1980 Hunter 30, the mast height is given as 40'6". And 47' from the waterline. Also, don't forget to consider any additional height for antenna or other things above the mast. I had a friend who cleared the bridge with his mast height, but the VHF antenna didn't make it! He had to replace it!

H30 mast height

I'm looking at the 1980 Hunter sales brochure as I type this and it says "mast height 40'6", mast height from waterline 47'0"

THANKS

Thanks for the responses.... The person I am buying it from is trying to tell me that the height is 53 ft from the waterline... I thought that was a bit high.. obviously he was guessing... Thanks again Mark

Deck stepped mast

You can easily take it down (takes 3 people) with the standard mast crane at a marina. Then you can mount it on a cradle for the transit under bridges if need be. David Lady Lillie

May be 53'

Nobody has mentioned the possibility that this boat may have been altered for racing with a sleeve and an extension. Mark, better safe than sorry. Run a messenger line up and then measure it. By the way, you are getting a great piece of fiberglass. I have an '81 and have a ball with it.

thanks AGAIN...

folks, Thanks for all the input.. I thin kt he only way to go is to measure it myself.. I didnt realize there were so many variations.. That is why I asked... I thought about stepping it but I was told it costs quite a bit of money... like 175 each time.. just trying to save some leg work here... Rather sail .,... Regards & thanks Mark
