The lowest overhead clearance is...
is 49 feet at the Port Mayaca lift bridge. The minimum clearance for overhead power lines is 55 feet. The project depth for the waterway is 8 ft. These heights and depth can vary with differences in rainfall. Call the Clewiston office of the Army Corps of Enginners to determine conditions and closing schedule for maintenance. (832)983-8101. If you exceed the 49 minimum clearance at port Mayaca by a couple of feet you may be able to get through with assistance from the Indiantown Marina who for a fee will heel your boat over with 55 gallon drums. The power lines will then become your controlling mast height limit. All other bridges are higher. The trip is best made in two days and you can overnight at Roland Martin's Marina in Clewiston at mile 65. It is a must do trip if you are in the area as you can get to see Florida as few people have. We did the trip last about four years ago and I thought I was hallucinating when I saw a camel and a water buffalo in a home's backyard. As we approached there was also a South Americam llama near the shore. The locks are well tended and run on schedule. Good luck.
