Does anyone have a recommendation for a mast gate for a 23.5 / ? Also looking at the trailer hitch I see a selector know that can either be in tow position or backing . What is the function and purpose of this > ? No other boat I have owned has had such a feature . Thanks , Mike

Here's the one that is supposed to fit the track:

No clue on the trailer issue, though. :)
Thank you Phil , that looks like a sail slide stop , What I was asking about was a mastgate . It essentially temporarily closes the area of the mast track where you feed the sail slides into the track . It then lets you lower the mail without the slides coming out of the track . I searched this site and could not find a mastgate . I found a mastgate .com website that offers models for several boats . They had one listed for a h23 but not a 23.5 ,. Not sure how similar the masts are on these boats for this purpose . It is an article that I think would sell if stocked by model . Not real pricey and something most people would buy ,

Hey Carboman, I have a 87 Hunter 23 with a Francespar mast. Do you also have a Francespar mast ? if so do you have the profile # that you supplied to Tom. I would like to order a fixed gate but Tom needs the profile # which I cannot get unless I drop the mast,

Hey Crazy Dave. Why did Hunter use the Francespar mast in 1987.

Thanks

MMsailor;

I may have inadvertenly answered the wrong thread. I removed that response. On the surge brake actualtor, they will vary with manufacturer as to features. If you have a lever or button that says tow, pulling forward will activate the surge brakes for towing as the trailer moves forward with tow vehicle braking actives the surge brakes. If trying to back up hill or even sometimes on a flat surface, those brakes will be engaged as the trailer is engaging the surge brakes. To stop that from happening, I have seen such a lever or button to keep those brakes from engaging while backing up.

I believe Francspar would have been the forerunner to the Z Spar. Z Spar was based out of France. Prior to that, Hunter used Isomat or Kenyon Isomat located in Charlotte, NC at that time. Kenyon Isomat was bought out by Z Spar and that was a fiasco. I will not go into that but if anyone has a Kenyon Isomat or Isomat mast, I would refer them to Charleston Spar/Sparcraft in Charlotte, NC which is in the old Kenyon Isomat location with the same folks. I would suggest looking at U.S. Spar website to see if your Francspar mast looks like those. I think that is the issue but could be wrong.

On the hitch ,the backing position locks the ball fitting level as to not activate surge brake operation.I only use it when launching,or backing long distances
