Recently purchased an 86 O'Day 272 with C-Spar Mast and I'm not wildly enthusiastic about the Mast foot and Tabernacle. Once upright it's fine, but it's a booger to step the mast without a lot of help to keep the cast aluminum in line. The very small pivot pin and the dogs that hook it won't take any side pressure at all. The dogs were already cracked when I got it. Is any retrofit or replacement available that still has the rigging exiting through the foot? I'd try D & R, but I've been waiting over a week for a reply to another question and C-Spar's website is in French. C'est domage! Scotty

I don't think the 272 was made to trailer sail. I had the mast down just twice in the 15 years I owned one.Call C-spar for further info on your repairs then leave the mast alone except periodic checks. Yes D&R very slow at just about everything.
