My 336 is on the hard for the Winter. I had the mast taken down this year and will inspect and do maintenance as necessary. What are ALL the things I should do to take advantage of this tri-annual undertaking? Is once every 3 years often enough? thank you and Happy New Year, Bob/Pilgrim

Hope it's often enough.

If three years is not often enough then I am way overdue. This will be my third season coming up and I don't know when the mast was previously stepped. But we do check the rigging every Spring. Not sure why you would have to take it all down for inspection. My plan is to wait until I am ready to replace the wire.

stick down

Check all electrical connections (nav lights and VHF, radar, wind, etc.)Replace bulbs. Inspect and lube all sheaves. Replace halyards if needed. Inspect standing rigging, including pins and swages. Check for water intrusion at mast step. Install halyard anti-slap device if needed. All of these things are easier done with stick down.

This year I will!

This year I will replace the plug and socket that forms the electrical connection between the mast and hull. Last yeat I inspected this connection and evrything looked fine, however, halway though the season this connection went bad ansd I lost my masthead light. From now on I will probably npuit on a new plug very year as they are cheaop and easy to install and I will sleep better at night. I also replace the Joker valve in the head as these have a habit of quiting and there is never a good time to loose your head!
