Hello Fellow Sailers, I recently purchased a Catalina 14.2 and would like to make or purchase a mast crutch to support the mast while trailering. Has anyone done so for their small boat? I was looking at a Precision P-15 that had one that mounted in the rudder gudgens that seemed to be made of fibreglas. I was thinking of using 1/2" or 3/4" plywood with several coats of polyurethane and transome pintles from West Marine for hardware. Any input pro or con would be appreciated. Thank you, Mike

Most of us who trailer sail have a crutch of some type.Using the grudgens is fine as long as you are only using them to line it up You don't want the mast bouncing up and drown on them as your driving. It is far better to mount a "t" and let the weight be supported by the transom.Use the archives for photos.
