Good morning,
Apologies if this has been covered... New Cat 22 owner with 1982 that has holes for mast cleats (starboard/port), but no cleats. I have bought cleats that fit, but the accompanying bolts, & all bolts I can find do not seem to match the treads. Width appears to be a '8' or 5/32 TPI seems to be way less than 32 (the standard rough thread cut) perhaps 24, perhaps lower!... I could not find info on the catalina factory page. Any help appreciated!

The original screws or screws used by a Prior Owner may have been self-tapping screws.

yes, or wood screws, who knows ;p
Just wondering if anyone knew if they came from the factory with a standard...

Well, without a reference screw/bolt, it's a pickle for sure. Having said that, to the best of my knowledge all pre - New Design Catalina 22 masts came equipped both with port jib and starboard main halyard cleat. My '88 New Design also has these cleats but they are superfluous as my halyards are led aft. The hole will be threaded for either a metric or American Standard (which is unfortunately a series of four [4] standards). I'm a really big fan of the metric system due to it's simplicity and most of my bicycles are built to this standard. Sailing with USA built boats is another story. Having said all this, you can do a couple of things.
1) Trace an approximate diameter of the bolt hole and armed with this go to your local Ace Hardware and purchase one of each similar sized bolts (both metric and ASME or, whatever) to see what fastener you actually need. It won't cost you a lot. Then, once you identify which bolt you actually need, it's simply a second trip to Ace to get the correctly sized fasteners and return the unneeded fasteners.
2) At this point, once you know the correct size, the Bristol thing to do is to go sailing with the Ace fasteners so you get out on the water and then also order up the correctly sized stainless 516 fasteners and an anti-seize compound to correctly do a Bristol installation of the cleats while enjoying a libation at the slip.
