Mast bracket question

I have a Catalina 27. I only recently bought it. I just noticed that the mast has this attachment on it. I’m a little puzzled about what it is for. Any ideas?

Pad eye for a whisker pole.

Do not sweat the small stuff. Better to ask a question than to experiment too far beyond your comfort level. Somethings are forgiving, like lines, halyards, sails, fenders and such...

Somethings are less forgiving like drilling holes and keeping water outside of the boat. The latter is a critical issue.

Take the boat out and have some fun. As Capt Ron says...
