Mast boot leak

Morning all,

I have a new to me Hunter 42 Passage. Picked it up last week and sailed toward home. Had a couple rainstorms and it is leaking into the cabin from the mast boot. Looked above and I don't seen anything to seal.

Can someone give me a clue about where and how to seal between the mast bottom and the cabin top please?

Congratulations on your new 42!!

Do you have a mast deck wire housing just forward of the mast? If so, you can seal both sides. My Hunter 386 had a leak emanating from this housing when I purchased her and the previous owner just allowed it to leak down the compression post into the salon causing compression post rust stains. I sealed the housing and removed the rust stains.

Thanks for the info. I'll take a look when I get back to the boat. I'm sure you are correct. I briefly glanced at the base of the mast and didn't see anything that looked like a suspect.
