Hello all---quick question,...I have an 1986 H34 and i need to sand and repaint the boom and mast. What type of paint (and color) is recommended? Any suggestions on how to do this cheaply and easily(contradiction in terms, eh?)?

Awl Grip

Awl Grip is the only way to go. It is expensive. Look for an authorized Awl Grip painter that will let you do the prep work to unrig the mast and boom, take off all of the components, remove the finish to bare aluminum and then do the reassembly. That approach will be mush more affordable. The finish will be fantastic and should last 10 years. Let the professionals apply the solvent cleaners, undercoats and final finish. Its very toxic stuff.

Mast Paint

I used Brightside about three years ago. Still looks like new. $26/quart.

Touch up?

We have same issue on our 1979 H37C. I have been using Brightside as a touchup. See this article on Sailnet to know how to do it right: http://www.sailnet.com/collections/articles/index.cfm?articleid=woodto0168
