Mast Bend - how much?

I have recently acquired a H336 (1996), and while lovingly gazing at her sitting at her slip, I noticed that the mast was pretty well bent back. I know the top section has pre-bend welded in, but the rest of the bend I assume is because of the rigging. Does anyone know how much bend is required? I also noticed that there was quite a lot of bend at the lower spreaders, and less at the upper. Is this the best way to share the bend between the two?

there is no bend "welded in" it's all from the rigging. Bend should be about 1" for every 10 feet of mast, e.g. 50 foot mast = 5" bend. Read article about tuning B&R rig on this site.

in the manual

The bend spec is in the boat manual. I don't have it with me now but can check later. See if you have the rigging drawings that come with the boat. It is there. Weight your halyard and see how far it is out from the mast at the base to get the approx existing bend. Don

Mast bend ....

... should be set at the designed luff curve of your main regardless of what any specs say. Too little mast bend and you invert the main. Too much and you over flatten it. The whole point of mast bend is to allow proper shaping of the main under various wind conditions.
