'nuther easy one! Can someone tell me if a 3 inch wide mast bail will fit on the Z Spars mast of my 1987 H23? Also, how does one go about attaching such an item to use with a boom vang? I was thinking pop rivets. Thanks! Richard H23 "Invictus"
I attached a bail (can't remember the size but it was a close fit) just above the mast base with a couple of #14 cap-head stainless steel sheet metal screws. I ground the tips off the screws so there were no sharp edges inside the mast to foul the main halyard. I used a third screw to start the holes and cut threads in the sides of the mast. The bail carries turning blocks for the vang and cunningham. Both lines go through a deck organizer on the stbd side then aft to cam cleats on the cabin top. I haven't had any problems and don't really anticipate any because I basically copied the setup from two other local H23's (no reported problems). I suspect the aluminum around the screws would probably fail in shear before one of the screws does. Good luck. Peter H23 "Raven"
