I'm looking for a small halyard winch, and don't need a brand new one. Anybody know if there is a sailboat "wrecking yard" out there somewhere?

Used Boat Items in Puget Sound

Admiralty Marine at Shilshole; www.admiraltymarine.com 206-781-9030 Popeye's in Everett; www.popeyesmarine.com have some consignment items 425-339-9479 There is another place in the Fremont district of Seattle. I know how to get there but forgot their name. Traveling north over the Fremont bridge bear left at the second traffic light on the road that takes you to Ballard. Go, say, 3, 4 or 5 blocks and it's on the right side about "one door up". If I remember right, their name is after a boat yard in the area. They seem to cater more to power boats but have a really large warehouse and have some sail stuff too. The prices for most of this stuff seems steep to me when compared with new but winches are not cheap so it might be worth the effort. Hope this helps.

Used parts

In Maryland (annapolis) there is a store called Ocean Outfitters. It is a consignment store that sells used parts for boats. You might want to call them and see if they have what you need.

At least twice a week I bid on a winch, still have not "won" one. You need to specify the make in your search or you will get literally hundreds because of all the trailer and Jeep winches. My searchs are always "winch make" where "make" is Lewmar, Harken, Barient, Barlow, Andersen, etc. One at a time. A couple of other sources are Surplus Unlimited(Link below) and Sailor's Exchange: http://www.sailors-exchange.com/
