Hi. I have a '67 Mariner. I was wondering how the sail plan / rigging differed from the Rhodes 19, because I want to pick up some used gear, and there are many more Rhodes out there. For example, are the sails the same dimensions, could I use Rhodes sails on the Mariner? What about a main/boom cover, or a boom/cockpit tent? Also if anyone out there knows a (cheaper than Stuart Marine) source for a main/boom cover or boom tent please let me know (or if you have the dimensions for the Mariner). And if anyone is selling any used Mariner gear, I'd appreciate knowing. Thanks. Dan

Alternatives for Mariner cloth

Hello Dan- First, the sail plan for the Mariner and the Phodes is different. The mast height is not the same. You will not have much luck there. However, the booms are very close and you will find the cockpit tents and sail covers to be interchangeable. As for alternative cources, there are a few. www.sailrite.com is a great company to deal with. They are a do-it-yourself-marine-clothhouse. They will sell yon materials and templetes for any proejct that requires sewing. I made a sail cover for my main and a sail bad for my job. It will save you some money but probably not enought to justify your time. Sunbrella is a $%#th to sew, even with an industrial sewing machine. Next time, I will have someone else do it. If you go this route, you can aska local canvas/sailmake. It is their off season up North and they usually are looking to make deals to keep themselves busy over the winter. A second alternative, which I think is very good, is to see an automotive apolstry company. My father-in-law just have some canvas work done for his powerboat that was 40% of what a local sailmaker wanted. The only drawback is that he used convertible (auto) canvas rather than sunbrella. But I would imagine that stuff is pretty durable also. Good Luck, Craig

R19/Mariner Sails

I picked up a used Rhodes19 main sail for my '63 Mariner. It fits great, just make sure you check your dimensions before ordering or find out what the return policy is. I believe the "stock" jib is smaller on an R19, but jibs are more flexible in what size you want to use. See link for a used sail dealer, where I got my jib. Cheers! Chris S/V B
