Mariner mast tuning

I'm looking for some advice on tuning the mast of my Mariner 2+2. The previous owner had adjusted the rigging so that the mast leans back a little. I have attempted to pull it forward so that it is truely vertical by tightening up the forestay but I have run out of room on my lower shrouds. Is this a big deal for upwind performance? I'm also curious about the recommended loads for the upper and lower shrouds. Does anyone have suggestions? Thanks, Doug

Mast Rake

Doug, you don't want the mast to be perfectly vertical. What you're trying to adjust out is what's referred to as the 'rake'of the mast. I'm not sure but if I remember correctly, there should be about a foot of rake (i.e., the top of the mast should be about a foot aft of the base) Give Stuart Marine a call and see if they'll tell you, otherwise, buy the owner's manual from them (~$15). aloha, win
