Anyone have knowledge of what the riveted block on the boom of a 1981 Spindrift Mariner is for? It is about 15" foward of the rear end cap on the starboard side with a matching positioned eye on the port side. The block has space for about 1/4" line on aft side and 1/8" line on foward end (around the sheave). I cannot make it into any kind of outhaul for the main, but maybe that is what it is. There is also a cleat 6' from the rear on the side, which might be for an outhaul, but that seems way to far foward? Bought this boat last fall unrigged. Thanks for any help. Familiar with my old 1969 Daysailer for its outhaul, but this one baffles me!!--Bill

Same on my O'Day 25

I have the same configuration on my 25 and like you, I bought a boat that was rigged incorrectly (in my estimation). I have used it as an outhaul, but would love to see how this is rigged properly if anyone has a photo.

Downhaul?

If there is an eye on one side, a block on the other, and a cleat on the same side as the block, but closer to the mast, it is for the clew reef line.

Ah So!!

Now that solves that problem!! Thanks ED. I do figure on needing to reef at this point in mynew to sailing experience and at 72 1/2 I am quite sure my sailing will mean motoring if it gets to that point!!! Now I will work on a suitable outhaul block/cleat system and a topping lift with a jam cleat set up. Once again thanks from and old timer, but not old time sailor!!!!!!!!!!!!!-- Bill L
