Oday Mariner Blue Hill
Hi....just launched my "new" Mariner....1970 centerboard model I purchased about 10 years ago...! Long story, I'll save for another day.

Just put her in and noticed that the cockpit drains are barely above the waterline.... and with four people aboard (800 lbs), I'm getting a bit of water on the sole... Is this normal...? or could there be some sagging of the cockpit structure which is lowering the drains closer to sea level.

The boat otherwise seems fine. Some chipping and hairline cracks, but nothing that screams "Help me" or indicates any serious problems.

My 1978 model hasn't had any drain problems, but I've never had more than two people on board at one time.

Cockpit drains

JRH- I had a mariner for 20 years. I do remember having water come up to the opening of the drains in the sole when I was healed over or with a larger crew. I didn't see it as an indication of any problem. The problem I had was finding drain hoses that were stiff enough to not kink shut at the curve produced by the difference in the cockpit drain and through hull. I never really found an easy solution. I ended up using those spring like pieces with a straight shaft on one side that slip over the hose and help keep its rounded shape. So go ahead and enjoy your Mariner and don't worry about the drains. It's a great little boat.
