Mariner C/B pocket repairs?

I have a slight problem with my old O'Day Mariner 2+2 and am wondering if anyone has encountered it before. It seems that the centerboard moves alot from side to side especially when running. It appears that the fiberglass pocket is beginning to crack at the top where it meets the bottom of the cabin entry. The movement is getting worse with each sail, particularly when we take it out in heavy wind. Is a fiberglass repair all that is required or could there be major structural damage? Would replacing the centerboard help? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Centerboard problem

Sure wish you had received a few replys to this a I have a similar problem. My cable also hums when I'm on a starboard tack - I think it's the cable vibrating against the hull.

What I found first sail

I have owned my '66 Mariner since '94 and after making repairs necessary for her to 1) float and 2) accept sails I found the following: after having sat for 17 years and allowing her to "dry out" the last five, the wood is all starting to deteriorate. If I follow you, the fiberglass you speak of is what binds the right angles of the cockpit/cabin bulkhead to the centerboard trunk. My solution will be to replicate those bulkheads and attach them to the centerboard trunk such as the originals were. That will be after I remove the V-berth and replace all the "ribs" with a kit made up of all the ribs, precut and ready to install. Most certainly a labor of love.Susan Hodges1966 MarinerSojourn
