Have inherited early 70's vintage O'Day Mariner 2+2. My quick survey indicates hull/rigging/sails are in good shape but trailer is shot (rusting out of critcal structural members). Anyone have any experience with aftermarket sailboat trailer fabricators. Any particular experience with purchasing aftermarket Mariner, Rhodes 19 or Daysaler trailers. Any leads would be appreciated.

Karavan

I don't know who your local dealer would be, but I have seen a number of Mariners and Rhodes 19's loaded on Karavan trailers locally. My Daysailer rides on a Karavan trailer and its served me well. Hot-dipped galvanized so decent rust resistance, larger wheels for better bearing life. Justin - O'day Owners' Web

re: trailer for Mariner

Bud, when we got our boat, the trailer was marginal. I cast about looking for a ready made replacement trailer for the sailboat and found that the market in the neck of the woods that I was in (SF Bay area) was mainly powerboats. The closest that I could find was trailers made by Caulkens(?), but would have to be special ordered. Went into the local yellow pages and found one custom trailer maker that would make a sailboat trailer. Took the measurements off of the old trailer and got an estimate. Here's what I got for ~$2200.00: bunks, winch and strap, galvanized, mast support, keel pan, spare tire, swing-away tongue support, spare tire and wheel, and supposedly waterproof wesbac (sp?) tail lights. The lights aren't really waterproof. Don'task me how I know. Since you're on the right coast, the manufacturer's name wouldn't do you too much good. However, it's Sport Boats (Trailers?) and they're located in San Jose, CA, on Margaret Street. They built a really nice trailer for me. HTH. aloha, win
