Other than a plastic cover for the face, what is the major diffo between marine and car stereo? If someone has saved the $$$ and installed car audio w/ CD, have you been happy? Looking for feedback. -Jerry

Don't see much difference

Bought a Jenson Marine stereo. It crapped out in a year. Bought a $30 walmart special, it is still playing. You decide.

Rock and Roll

Jerry, there are two major differences that I've found and both relate to moisture. #1 If your boat is in the water it is subject to high humidity for long periods of time. If your speakers are soft and mushy (like a wet Kleenex) and you really crank 'em up, they will crack. Marine speakers are usually, (but not always) a plastic polymer so you can play them sopping wet if you want to. Automotive speakers are not usually designed for that kind of abuse. They are designed for high temperatures for long periods of time and UV degredation. #2 High humidity can also play havoc with your components and connections. Most car units are not designed to keep moisture out. If you want to save money, look for indoor/outdoor speakers and shelter your CD/Tape player from the elements as best you can. Ol' Dave
