I have received a recent marine survey from a broker. The following description of the hose is used:
Pump Out Hose: Nylon reinforced vinyl hose. (recently installed)
Vent Hose: Nylon reinforced vinyl hose. (recently installed)
Fresh Water Intake Hose: Nylon reinforced vinyl hose. (recently installed)
Toilet Discharge Hose: Nylon reinforced vinyl hose. (recently installed)

Based on your posts, this concerns me. It seems this is the appropriate hose for fresh water systems. My gut feeling is that the waste hoses are not appropriate, and should be replaced with the "Titon" of similar.

I have not visited the boat, but the picture (which I am unable to attach) shows clear hose with a net-like weave of thread embedded.

Thanks in advance-your posts on this and other forums are exceptional.

I know your waiting for response from Peggy but, The hose as described isn't going to fly at all. It sounds like the previous owner was trying to save some money by using some cheep hardware store hose. If one blows your in big trouble. Get the proper hoses so you can sleep at night.

Right hose for potable water, wrong hose for sanitation system

It's not just Inappropriate...potable water hose isn't rated for sanitation, and may not even be rated for below-waterline installation. Check it out against the chart here: http://www.tridentmarine.com/stage/potable.htm Best case, it'll permeate in a heartbeat...worst case, it can sink your boat.

So your gut feeling is right...all the hose in the sanitation system, including the tank vent and SEA watertoilet intake (I'd check the sink drains too) should be replaced. If the toilet is one designed to use onboard pressurized flush water, potable water hose is ok for the toilet intake. I'd use Trident 101 for all 1" and 1.5"...Shields or Trident #148 for the sea water toilet intake and tank vent.

I doubt that it's "hardware store" hose...marine potable water hose is a LOT cheaper than sanitation hose...so I suspect the owner just tried to save money by using it instead. I've even see boat builders use water hose for the toilet intake and tank vent.

Re: Right hose for potable water, wrong hose for sanitation system

Thanks to you both for the quick responses. I will be in contact with the broker soonish, and as the boat has had many upgrades, I am now concerned over the quality prinicples of the owner/vendor. Cheap out on one project......well, you know what I 'm thinking.

Re: Right hose for potable water, wrong hose for sanitation system

The owner is likely just "patching" things up, to get the boat to look good in advance of selling it. Sorta like painting all the rooms inside your house, to make it look better, when getting ready to sell it. Putting new hose in, that's nice and clean, looks impressive and an average buyer probably wouldn't know the difference between cheap hose and the good stuff.

The good sanitation hose ain't cheap (averages $8.00/foot) and is often quite rough to change out.
