I'm considering the following two mfgrs of 12V refrigeration. Sea Frost Model BD 12/24 with evaporater plates and Teachnautics Model CoolBlue with holding plates. Is there anyone out there that can give me an evaluation on any of the above based on personal experience. Both mfgrs will tailor their product to the boat's ice box size and my electrical supply. Thanks, Tarheel

Buying the correct refrigeration unit

There are several companies selling refrigerator conversion units for iceboxes and the two you have listed are excellent. Offering to tailor their system to match your electrical system is a strange statement, unless they mean to downgrade the box to a high temperature drink cooler for one day usage. The box size, amount of insulation, and how you plan to use it will determine the correct unit to buy. Buying an icebox conversion unit is not like buying a home refrigerator; you know what kind of performance to expect from a standard refrigerator. I have a Slide Show on my web site that will help guide you through the selecting process at http://www.kollmann-marine.com I do not sell refrigeration systems nor do I have a single favorite manufacturer. From the author of four books on boat refrigeration
