I just bought a 45DS, and I am in SW Florida.
Canb anyone recommend a reputable insurance company?
I am with USAA, and they put me through to Markel Marine, but I wanted another quote or two.
Many thanks.

Oh Boy

Boat -US and could try Progressive, state Farm won't insure boats any more.
When looked at boat insurance two years ago most insurers told me nothing over 25 ft and than some said 30 ft,I have a new 36.
I already had progressive up in NY for boat only and they at the time said they only do up to 30 ft.
When I moved to Florida full time in 2007 and started looking for auto insurance prices, when I got auto insurance they now said they would insure my 36 ft Hunter, the problem is the value of a new boat is very high and most told me they won't risk covering a boat over $100,000 except boat US and I guess you have found out it is very high,I have full replacement coverage with progressive, could have joined the Aux coast guard and gotten the insurance at half the price but no hurricane coverage for a boat over $100,000.
Good Luck and let us know how you make out.
Nick

Markel Marine said they would insure it, and I'm going to contact Wallace Welch and Wellingham.

I, too, insure my house, cars, personal property with USAA. But not my boat. I prefer insuring my boat with a company that (1) understands boats, and (2) will provide the needed claims service when and if you ever need it. Premiums come in a distant third in my calculation. I've had BoatUS insurance for my boats for over 30 years. Had one claim: boat totaled in a hurricane. BoatUS claim service was outstanding. Lots of my friends in this area who also had boats and insured them with their car or household insurer waited months for service after a major catastrophe. I had a check in hand. I like them.

Google for United Marine Underwrighters. They will act as a broker and find a company that will cover your new boat. The were able to get me a good policy with rates far better than BoatUS.
