I have a Jabsco manual marine heads which has been working fine. Recently, after pumping, the pump handle rises on its own (I assume from some kind of pressure back-up). I've checked and can't find a problem. Perhaps someone has had this situation and can lead me directly to the problem. Thanks for any help.

Marine Head Pressure Backup

I had the exact problem about a month ago. What I found was a clog in the 11/2" hose going from the head to the holding tank. I recommend getting either an electricians fish tape or plumbers auger (either can be purchased at a hardware store for less than ten bucks). Disconnect the hose from the holding tank and run the wire down the tube. Assuming your head is functioning properly, I would bet you will find a clog in the hose. Replacing the clogged hose is messy, but straight forward.

Clogged vent

It could be as simple as the vent hose line being clogged and the pressyre inside the tank eventually builds. You can check this by opening the pump out and seeing if the pressure drops. If that is the case you can run the spray knozzle from the hose into the vent line to try and unblock or possily some flexible heavey duty fishing line.

It could also be a plugged-up vent line coming of the holding tank. If the air that's inside the holding tank can't get out as the tank fills, the tank becomes pressurized. Then the pressure takes the path of least resistance, trying to get out. The path of least resistance is back through the toilet. And yes, it can cause the handle to lift up on its own. There's a piston on the other end of that shaft, that is being pushed up by the pressure.

I had the same blocked 1 1/2 outlet

I just recently purchase a sani-loo, locally made toilet treatment that meets our pump out requirements. After I installed it, a couple of week later I noticed every time we flushed the macerator pump would slowly fill up the bowl. I was convinced my new aqusition was a dud, so range up the manufacturer. He said dissconnect the 1 1/2 outlet and jamp a hose in there and turn it on. It was blocked solid, turned off the cock and removed the offending hose and replaced. Works like a dream now. The hose looked like it was full of cement. It's a great feeling when it all work out.
