I am going to replace my toilet in a Hunter 340 ,1998. i have the option of the standard PH II or a PHHB II The "HB" stands for High boy .according to Raritan the toilet is only 1/2 inch higher then the PHII. has anyone replaced a Hunter 340 standard Jabsco with a PHHB II? Will it fit? and had you encountered any instalation problems? Is now a good time to replace all the hoses as well?? Any help would be appreciated.

The only difference is the bowl size

On a PH II, the large and small bowls are interchangeable on the same base and pump. The larger bowl is 2 1/4" longer front to back, so unless there's at least that much room behind your current "standard" bowl, it'll be necessary to mount the base of the new toilet forward of its current position an inch or two. There's only 1/2" difference in the width, and if there's room above it for you to sit on your current toilet, there's room for the added height...so unless moving the toilet 1-2" forward causes any problems, it should fit.

Go with Raritan

I have paid more attention to the head on our Hunter 31 than I ever intended. Raritan as a company is one of the most responsive, with the best customer support in the industry. They are really good. Joe

I misread his question...thought he was replacing

standard bowl PH II with a new "highboy" model. Joe is right...go with the PH II. It's been the top rated toilet under $500 for several decades. As for whether it'll fit, there's only one thing to do, download the dimensions from the Raritan website at http://www.raritaneng.com (they're on the "promo sheet" in pfd format) and measure the space in your head. All "standard" and "highboy" bowls are the same sizes, regardless of brand...so when it comes to upgrading to the larger bowl, the only issue SHOULD be front-back space. If the larger bowl won't work, I'd strongly recommend going with the smaller "standard" bowl PH II...the PH II's lever pump action allows it "swallow" flushes that would choke ANY other toilet.

Slightly deeper and f/w hose in front.

James: Like Joe, I replaced my head on our H'31. The mounting area is very tight on these models. I used the compact version of the PHII. What I found is this unit is just slightly deeper from the center of the bowl to the back between the Jabsco and the PHII. The fresh water intake hose also mounts around the front of the unit vs. the rear on the Jabsco. I have had this unit for two seasons now and it works flawlessly. Never could say that about the Jabsco from day one. The admiral like it better too, which is the most important part. If she likes it, I love it.<g>

Fresh water intake hose?

I'm not sure what you're referring to, Steve... Neither the intake nor the discharge hose SHOULD go around the front (see the drawing in the promo sheet on the Raritan website)... and the PH II is sea water toilet, not fresh water. The pump can be mounted on either side of the toilet, but that shouldn't require any hoses to be at the front either if it's done correctly. 'Splain please?

Okay, let me put it this way.

Peggie: Our raw water intake happens to be fresh water for what it's worth. I should have stated "raw water intake". The "raw water intake" is on the front of the pump assy. and NOT on the rear like most marine heads. Based on the way my hose came through the cabinet, it was better to wrap it around the front, than put a kink in the hose, so it ran around the rear. Regardless, I think that this is one of the best heads made.

I'll be damned...you're right.

I gotta get back into some hands-on work on toilets...'cuz I've prob'ly taken two dozen PH IIs apart, but it's been long enough since I have that I had to look a detailed drawing to see what you're talking about. And you're dead on...the flush water intake is at the bottom of the wet/dry valve housing on the front of the pump. Walking off now...mumbling to myself...
