Our Yanmar (4JH2-TE) has an identification plate on the bell housing between the transmission and engine that states the type of transmission lubricate. Our service manual and owner's manual conflict as to which. Your engine should have that identification plate. I would follow what it says.I have a Yanmar 3MY30 engine and the manual does not specify a marine gear lubrication oil for the transmission. Any recommendations. The engine takes 15W-40 and I have that covered.
Hmm. Seems not enough, IMHO. Then again maybe our Kanzaki is larger and takes more lubricate; almost a full quart of ATF to bring the level to the dip stick mark. Thanks again.....mine has the same and it was driving me nuts to figure how much oil to put in so I just measured with a measuring cup the amount called for in the manual, .6pints or little over a cup. I will look at the stick today and see where the level is at.
Don't wipe it. Just roll it on a paper towel, you'll see it clearly. Good luck.Any tricks for reading the dip stick? When I pull it out it fit so tight it seems to wipe itself dry. Also the oil is clear in the first place so twice as difficult. I wish they made a dye for guys with bad eyes in tight spaces.
