Has anyone tried to fix their cd player. Mine won't read the disc. I wonder if the salt air clouds the lense. If this is the case I may replace it with an auto cd player they seem to be half the price.

Go Auto

Unless you are going for extended off shore just by an auto version then replace them as they die. My auto version lasted longer than the marine version anyways. caveat, i had it mounted down below, not in the cockpit, might be different if mounted above.

Agree with auto, but first---

Along with a few million folks who have previously responded to this site, I installed an auto CD player. Before you go take the plunge, however, visit you local electronic store and pick up a CD lens cleaner. The lens cleaner is a CD with microscopic brushes on the surface. After extended play, the lens on any CD player will eventually get dirty and keep the player from reading the disk. If it doesn't solve the problem, use it occasionally on the new player to keep the lens clean.

What kind of CD are you using?

Some players will not read home-recorded CD's. Unless you are quite handy, I believe that these units are "disposable." If you can afford it, toss the old one and buy one that fits your taste. Whether you buy a marine or a car CD depends on a few factors. Hunter put a car CD in our new 356, and I will replace it with a car unit (largely because I run the A/C/dehumidifier all the time). We make copies of our CD's to have on the boat, and if you have a computer and record your own music, you might look into a unit that plays MP3's too. Lots of music on one CD. A remote control that works from the cockpit is another "must have." Al Dream Catcher

Try XM Radio instead of CDs...

I used to have an extensive collection (100+) of CD's on the boat, but have not played a single one this season since I installed XM satellite radio with over 100 channels of CD quality music/talk. I have the small Delphi unit, with the home adapter kit in the main cabin, and a "boombox" in the aft cabin for evenings. Even at home our listening to CD's is a rare thing now.

xm radio

We also went xm and it's great! We used the sony tuner-attaches directly to the newer sony radios that Hunter is using-with a standard xm auto antenna installed inside the nav station (works great, even inside the cabin!)
