We are in the process of relocating from Maryland to CT. Looking for a slip or mooring for my Hunter 320. Any suggestions.

Plenty of Places

Connecticut has a large shoreline, where will you be living, the Western, Central or Eastern part of the state?

CT. area marinas

Dave, there are lots and lots of places in CT. that are great, let me just suggest that you look in the Mystic River/Fishers Island Sound area.Where will you be living in CT.?I would guess you would want to be as close to the boat as you can and that will determine where you go.There are over 100 miles of coast line in Ct. Good Luck on you move !

Some Ideas

I used to keep my boat in Bridgeport, not the garden spot of CT, and I had a lot of fun for many years. Milford is only an hour sail away and I am sure you will enjoy being in that area. However, when I bought my new 356, I moved out East to the the Stonington area and I cannot tell you how much more there is out there to do. You are only a few miles from Long Island's better sailing areas, Block Island, Newport, and many points east. Although your drive will be doubled, I think your enjoyment will be tripled. Visit my web site, www.mastconfusion.com in a couple of days (I am about to update it),and maybe some of the upcoming stories will give you some ideas. As with everything, there is a compromise and the down side for you is traffic Sunday evenings. If you decide on this area I can however, give you some short cuts. When you get to CT. send me contact me by e-mail and I can give you some ideas. Good Luck in your decision.

CT Marinas

I live in Orange and keep my boat in Milford Harbor. Two places to consider there is Milford Boatwork or Port Milford Marina. Both are excellent facilities w/ professional staff. However coming from Danbury you will find there drive awful.; especially on the weekends. Your best bet is Norwalk harbor. There are many marinas w/slips and/or moorings. Cove Marina and Rex Marine to name a few. Norwalk is opposite or "a stones throw to" Northport , Huntington harbor, Oyster Bay. Norwalkn is an easy harbor to get in and out of. Granted you are further from Block Island, Mystic etc. however there is alot to see down that way. Growing up we lived in Ridgefield and Norwalk was 30min away. Milford is over an hour. Stratford and the Housatonic is a difficult area to get in and out of. The current is quite strong. Hope this helps.Any questions contact me at aliebnick@aol.com

Alan is correct.

If you're going to be in the Danbury area, Norwalk would be your best bet for saltwater sailing. As an alternative, there's a 20 mile (or so) long lake called Candlewood Lake which is super close (Candlewood has shoreline in Danbury) if you want to try fresh water sailing. I have a house in New Fairfield (7 miles North of Danbury) and a condo on the Housatonic in Milford. Traffic can be a real bear at certain times. If you're really set on Milford/Stratford, you may want to look into the Housatonic Boat Club on the Housatonic about a mile from open Sound. You will be new to the area, so get used to traffic denser than you've probably experienced before. Commutes are often referred to by time rather than mileage. My wife commutes from Milford to Stamford, about 30 miles. It can take her anywhere from 35 minutes to 2 1/2 hours depending on the time of day. With accidents & disabled cars this time increases. New Fairfield to Stamford can be anywhere from an hour to 2 1/2 hrs (40 miles). This traffic increases on Summer weekends so leaving Friday and coming back Sunday evening can put you at the higher end of the timeframes I mentioned above. After it took me 8 hours to go from New Fairfield to Groton (75 miles or so) on Friday evenings and to come back to New Fairfield Sunday evenings, I ended up leaving early morning (5AM) Saturdays and Mondays. I don't mean to scare you, but traffic is a fact of life here, due to our relative proximity to NY City.

Thanks for the information.

Thanks for the info. We're most likely looking at Newtown or Brookfield. Newtown should hopefully bring us a little closer to Milford. Dave

Good luck in your house hunt, Dave.

You may also want to look at Bethel and Ridgefield (just South of Danbury).
