In a response to Walt's question regarding "Replacing maralon values", LaDonna commented that "Marelon has a tendency to break down...". Is that a suggestion that there is a better or more suitable material for valves? Thanks...

Although Marelon takes quite a while to break down, it can with disastrous effects. I've know folks with marelon thru hulls 10 years old with no problems & some only 3 years old and the thing breaks right off. There's really no telling so I like to err on the side of safety. Bronze can last much longer, as long as your boat isn't riddled with electrolysis. LaDonna
