We don't care to sail overnight unless conditions are VERY favorable. Personal comfort level. As fall sets in, the days get very short.
We've done 8' sloppy seas overnight, it's called pleasure boating.

Starting in NY, if you went off shore and considering favorable winds, how long would it take to reach south Florida sailing straight through?

10 to 12 days in the most general terms. It's probably 900 km.
