Kelly Purinton

I wrote a few weeks ago with the problem of not being able to raise the main. It turns out that the replies I received in this forum were right on the money - how to run the halyard and also removing the boom. Thank you! The sail "sailed" to the top of the mast, only to discover that it was about 2 feet too long for the mast and therefore was still unsailable. Sigh. Back to the sailmaker for me and maybe I can bum a ride on someone else's boat for a Saturday sail. Thanks again for the suggestions.

Reef it

Kelly: As a self taught sailor it made my me proud that my piece of advice about lifting the boom helped. Hey, if the sail is too long and you are dying to sail, just reef (wrap)the sail around the boom once or twice to take up the slack. You will lose the use of the mid boom block for your main sheet but the boat will still sail fine in moderate wind. We beginner sailors need to stick together.
