Hello, just bought a 1977 hunter 27ft and I'm trying to track down as much info as possible. Does anyone know where I can get an owners manual. The boat has been sitting for two years and was willed to the person I bought it off. It was his inlaws so he is not real familiar with the boat. I would like to get the wiring and plumbing diagrams if possible.Even more important would be to find out the model of the engine. I know its a yamar, the small id tag on the back of the engine is unreadable. The number on the title is hun50-461m7-7d27. I have until April to make sure everything is functional and then its being sailed from Nj.toMd. any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks George

Thanks

You can start here: http://hunter.sailboatowners.com/index.php?option=com_kb&Itemid=267&cat_id=16&page=model&mn=27_75-84 . There are two PDFs under the "Brochure..." article. For wiring I don't think there is anything better. Someone might have the original 11x14 prints. I have them for my H37C but originally they were in color. Hunter sent them to me in B&W. Maybe an H27 owner has the color version. Specific questions are good because these guys know the H27 inside out.
Thanks, looked at the wiring and that will save me a ton of time. I'm not looking for problems but tracking down shorts and trying to rewire without diagrams is murder George

Congratulations on your boat purchase. Yes, it sounds like work will be needed. But the Cherubini Hunter classic design and sound construction were great. All-in-all a perfect boat for restoring to original glory.

On central San Francisco Bay quite a few times over the last several years I've seen a wonderfully restored Hunter Cherubini 27, with new sails also, out for a day cruise. When I notice it, I will alter my course to get a better look. (Unfortunately the owner may not know much about the Cherubini mystique since there has been no sign of recognition that my 1980 Cherubini Hunter 36 is part of the same line.) I don't think there is any other 27' sailboat that under sail looks so much like a real mid/large cruiser. On the water, it gives the impression of a much bigger boat. The brochure in the link that Ed sent shows the beautiful lines of the Cherubini H27.

Good choice!

Well the good news is that the engine is a Yanmar and not Renault because of parts and service availability. It is probably a 1GM with 6.5HP. Do not worry about the owners manual as the information was very basic. Perhaps someone can copy for you the electrical and plumbing diagrams as they are really the only boat specific info on the manual. The first thing would be to see if the engine cranks. If the boat has been stored for a couple of years I would suggest you drain the fuel tank and dispose of the fuel. Drain and clean the filter on the water separator and replace the secondary filter which is on the engine. I would change the oil and replace the raw water impeller. Once on the water get the engine going and look for water or oil leaks. After you get the engine running good move on to the standing rigging, chcek chainplates and wires for cracks or broken strands. If any shrouds are loose tighten them with a Loos Gauge. Then come the sails, depending on their condition you may take them to a sail loft and get them reconditioned. The boat originally had gate thru-hull valves. Check their condition and if original you may consider replacing them with ball type valves. You are probably going to need a couple of new batteries. Check the instruments which are a Depth sounder and knot meter. The rest would likely be cosmetics. I would have no problems with taking an h27 coastal cruising from NJ to MD.

You may have a Yanmar YSM 8, single cyl, 8hp engine. I have the 79, Cherubini Hunter 30 with the (now replaced) YSM 12,
1 cyl noise maker!
The parts on the YSM series are getting harder to find, which is partly why I repowered with a 2GM 20 F.
