I just bought a 1987 Hunter 23. It seems in good condition but I had to trailer it from South Jersey to Southern Maryland. The previous owner broke it down and then tried to explain how to step the mast. I only got about 1/2 of what to do. My problem is on the center chain plates you have 4 lines coming into the chain plate 2 short 2 long, 2 to one side 2 to the other. Which one goes on the bottom of the chain plate the long from the top of the mast or the short from the spreader. I am a novice at this. I had a San Juan 21 that I broke down but all lines were left intact. This is a new experience, going from a swing keel to a attached keel the rudder is totally different, This is going to take some slow going till I feel better on the learning curve. Does anyone have a picture or pictures of how to rig the boat properly. I would greatly appreciate any thing that would help. Also, if the boat has any little quarks that I need to know about. :)

Shroud-Chain Plate attachment

Harold,

The lower shrouds attach to the chain plates aft of the upper shrouds. I stepped my mast for the first time last week and had it backwards, just doesn't work. Search prior posts for info on stepping the mast. At a bare minimum you are going to want an extra hand and a snatch block you can attach to the mooring pin in your anchor well. Also, the gooseneck on the mast will damage your hatch if you do not properly elevate the mast as you pin it to the step plate. Contact me direct with your email & I will send you a copy of the manual I have been working on.

Cheers,

Chris
