Okay I am really confused. I have the 1983 hunter 31, dry dock. At the forward Starboard side below the water line directly below the bathroom area are two through hull holes one large and one small. Inside the Lav under the sink are 2 valves: a Red valve handle connect to a large hose and then a blue valve handle connected to a smaller hose.

The Hunter 31 manual plumbing diagram: shows a label #12 Manual waste pump that is located in in the Bow Berth. It is directly stern of the lav holding tank.

I have looked everywhere for the manual waste pump and can not find. Can some help with it any ideas?
What is the red valve and what is the blue valve?
What are the two through hull holes large and small below the water line?

My Guesses:

It appears the blue valve is to allow water from the smaller through hull to go into the head and possible the red valve is to allow it to dump overboard through the larger. But I have tried flushing clean water with the red valve open but nothing is coming out, I expect this needs the manual waste pump?

The original setup was set for direct overboard discharge or diversion into the holding tank. There was no manual pump.

The large discharge thru hull is for the waste, the smaller one is for the raw water intake. There is no telling how yours is plumbed after 30 years.

I have an 84. The pump is directly under the v birth. In my boat, open the small door and pump is on the right.

The plumbing on my 1983 Hunter 31 is all original plumbing.
There was a panel under the V berth that was screwed on.
I took out all the screws and you can see all the plumbing and holding tank.
It is very clear.

1.)the toilet out goes to a y valve in the v berth. the y valve allows you select the holding tank or an overboard thru hull on the port side. the Y valve has a blue mark which reads the selected position is closed so for it to go to the tank you should point the valve handle at the overboard thru hull.

2.)from the bottom of the holding tank is a manual pump handle that then connects to the red handle under the bathroom sink and the starboard thru hull . If you open the red valve under the sink it allows the manual pump to pump out the holding tank.

3.) the blue valve under the sink is simply the inflow to the toilet.

4.) the top deck waste access above the bathroom for pump out stations sucks the waste from the top of the tank.

My toilet also was not really pumping water into it. It pretty much stayed at the same level. It is a Jabsco. I replaced the joker valve and now it works like magic.

I learned WestMarine has 2 free stickers required for my 31' Hunter required warnings about garbage and oil.

If you have a Y valve it must be zip tied to empty into the tank and also the overboard valves need to be zip tied.

thanks for everyones help.
