I've just purchased a 322 with a brand new Yanmar 18 in her. However, there is no manual on the boat. Does anyone have a used on for sale? Where could I purchase a new one if all else fails? I'm shoving off for a 400+ mile trip next week and need to know about breaking in the engine right away. Can you tell me the proper way to break her in and what kind of oil you recommend. Info will be appreciated.

Thanks Jeff

for your info. I was just in St. Pete today. Wish I had seen your message earlier. I too will be interested in how the boat performs. I have owned a 272 for the last nine years and just loved it. Have your three years with your boat been good ones? Have you needed to make any modifications on your 322? If I knew how to get in touch with you, I would let you know how the trip down from Hilton Head goes. Thanks again, Glen

Have had good luck

with the 322. I too traded up from a 272, I had owned for 10 years. Sailing characteristics very similar only a bigger boatwith alot more systems. My wife loves all the room in it. Have had to do very little work, other then regular maintenance on her. Good luck on your trip and my email address is in the owners list. Wild Goose Jeff

yanmar manual

Dear Glen try Mack Boring, http://www.mackboring.com or 1 800–622-5364, ask for Tony in parts ext 220. When he quotes a price tell him you saw it cheaper at diesel direct and he will match the price. I received my manual in 2 days. I just purchased the service manual in addition to the standard owners manual. If you have a new engine (as I did on my "new" 322) install an hour meter if you don't have one. I connected the meter's positive lead to the red/black terminal on the backside of the ignition switch. It will only feed juice to the meter when the key is in the on position. The alarm will remind you when the key is "on" and the engine isn't. You can snake a wire from your instrument panel to the engine compartment from in back of the panel with the stereo/fm-am receiver, there's a plastic tube in back of the panel for snaking wires fore & aft but I had difficulty getting my wire snake around all the bends. I finally snaked it down the core of wires in back of the trash receptacle, under the nav seat "floor" and the head floor under the shelves below the sink to the engine compartment. Its about a 2 beer job, but worth it as you will be able to keep an accurate log of the engine hours. If you do add it I believe you should use purple wire for the positive feed from the switch to the meter. Best wishes with your new 322. Ed

322 vs 272/280

I owned an O'Day 280 and moved up to a 322 this year, the 322 is as fast and seems to be more responsive. I like the rudder under the boat as opposed to a transom hung rudder. I did upgrade some of the original blocks with new from Garhauer in CA. Garhauer is very competitive and prompt, look at their site and Tina is very helpful Ed

Thanks Ed

I'll certainly consider that hour meter once I get the boat back to Florida. Thanks for the good info. Glen
