Getting our "new" (used) Hunter 285 (1987) ready for the season I came across the manual bilge pump. To my surprise NO hoses were connected to it! Guess the previous owner really trusted his electric bilge. Anyway, I'd like to set up the bilge as a backup for the electric one. Asking how your's is set up. Where do you have the intake hose positioned? The output? Is it set up to just throw out over the side? Have a photo of mine to share. Bob

Holding tank pump out

This was not intended as a bilge pump but was meant to pump out the holding tank. Obviously disconnected to meet pumput regulations.

Manual bile pump

I removed the old manual pump from the forward holding tank locker and mounted it on a teak board. The board is long enough to kep one foot on it for stability while pumping. I attached hoses long enough to reach to bilge and overboard (or to the galley or head sink. I keep this emergency pump in one of the lockers and can use it from the cockpit or below. There is a commercial model similar to this design - check out the catalogs.
