I have an early H25 (1974). She was modified by the previous owners, Edson Wheel steering and a Motor Well under the rear seat(the rudder is now mounted on the transom). I enjoy the mods. but my Mainsheet tackle is in the way all the time. I was thinking of installing a mainsheet traveler in front of the hatch right in front of where the dodger snaps to solve this problem and hopefully make the boat better to windward. The previous owner also had the boat rigged as a cutter(when I bought the boat it did not come with a forestaysail so I returned it to a sloop). I can see some advantages to having a forestaysail in 10-15 knotwinds(it would be much easier to drop the forestaysail if the wind pipes up above 15 knots than going forward to change headsails). Has anyone else done anything like this to there H25? Any advice?

I few thoughts

It to have a 74 model Hunter 25 that bought a a basket case and restored. Generally, I have tried to keeb things as originally designed. I did move the mainsheet from a fixed point on the transom to a traveler accross the cockpit. It does get in the way when I have a few people on board. But, the improved performance racing far outweighs this inconvience. To move the traveler onto the cabin top you will need to bridge over the seahood (the piece that the hatch slides under). I've had the seahood off and I don't think that it is strong enough to take the loads developed by the mainsail.
