mainsheet fiddle block assembly

I am working on an old O'Day 25, 1975. The main sheet fiddle block assembly is unassembled. I am not sure how it goes together or how it connects to the traveler and the boom. I have pieces, but not sure how they go together. Is there anyone out there who may have a few pictures of this. I believe this is the original hardware.

This is also the situation for the boom vang. Have pieces, but no assembly. If anyone has a picture of this also, it would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the forum Helm Hog.

Attached are some photos that might help.

The first photo shows how the line is run through the blocks for the main sheet. The block with the cam cleat is mounted to the traveler with a shackle. Be sure the cam cleat faces towards the stern.
The other block is mounted to the boom, about 10" from the end of the boom with another shackle.

If you blow up the second picture it gives a little detail to the vang, which on my boat is the green line. The upper bock of the vang has a wire pendant with knob on the end. That slides into a slot on a piece riveted under the boom about mid way back.
The other block of the van is shackled to the bottom of the mast. There should be a piece riveted a few inches up from the deck which is the mounting point for the vang.

Hope that helps you to get it rigged.

Ward,
Thanks for your pictures. I think that the picture of the fiddle block assembly is exactly what I have. I will check it. However, the boom vang assembly is a little harder to see. I will check it based on your description. I may need to take a picture of my pieces and send it to you if I can't quite figure it out. One more question. We are hoping to get our boat in the water soon, but I am still puzzled about raising the mast and not losing control of it as it is put up. Would you care to advise on how you may do this? Thanks.

Go to the Boat Info menu at the top of this page, then to O'day Owner Modifications, then click on 25 to the right. There are a few ways listed to raise the mast. There are also a couple of threads running about mast raising.
I lowered mine once with the help of a really big guy. Decided it would take three of us to raise it without a system. I took the easy way out and had the yard do it.
I keep my boat in a slip and for winter the marina hauls it with mast up so I don't plan on taking it down anytime soon.

Here is a little better picture of the vang. I remembered that my vang is a Lewmar and not original But it connects the same way. Without the wire part it is just like the main sheet setup but it has a V cleat. The wire is connected to the block with a shackle. I put it upside down so I can more easily reach it standing in the companionway.
