mainsheet configuration

I am curious about any other ways to route a mainsheet on a Catalina C18 (2005) other than the tyical "Barney post" and "stern monted". What got me thinking is, how do larger boats do it? I have a barny post on my C18 and it works great as long as you have no more than two people on board. The stern mounted looks like it would not be too hard to work but I've never sailed with one. Any ideas. I'm thinking about changing to the stern mount but do't know what problems could areise or the costs. Any help is appreciated. Glen

C-18 mainsheet mount

Hi Glen, I own a 2003 C-18. It has a stern mount mainsheet that connects to the backstay. It works very well and is totally out of the way. Steve

Steve, Thanks for the thoughts. Did your boat come with the stern mount or did you change it? That's obviously a big part of my inquiry, the cost of the change, that is. Thanks Again, Glen

C-18 mainsheet

From what I understand, the Catalina 22 Sport has a traveler above the rudder on transom. Also one of the cat18owners Yahoo group members built a rope traveler for his boom-end sheeted Capri 18 at the transom using a couple of add-on stanchion attachment points. He posted pictures of it. We discussed upgrading it to 2:1 with blocks in one of the threads. URL below. I also like the boom-end mainsheet to backstay. That "Barney Post" looks like a toe-stubber and shin-banger to someone as clumsy as I can be at times. -- Moe

C-18 Mainsheet Mount

Glen I bought my 2003 C-18 new and it came from the factory with the boom end mainsheet attached to the lower end of the backstay. I wasn't able to find the pictures of the homemade traveler the other post talked about, can someone help me view them. It sounds interesting because my backstay is mounted off center to keep out of the way of the rudder. A traveler would solve that problem. Thanks Steve

C-18 Rope Traveler in Yahoo Group

When you go to the Related Link I posted previously, at the top of the page there are the words "Sign In" in bold with the words "Sign Up" just below. If you already have a Yahoo account, click Sign In. If you don't, click Sign Up Once you've done that, there is a button over on the right side near the top that says "Join this Group". Once you've done that, you'll be able to get to the Photos area and the traveler is in the album labeled 2003 Cat 18 La Nena There is also some discussion in the Messages about it, and upgrading it to 2:1

Thanks Moe, I found the pictures. By the way have you ever heard of anyone adding a spinaker to a C-18? Thanks Steve

C-18 Spinnaker

There's a new member asking that question in the Messages area right now. You can read them on-line and/or subscribe to them like a mailing list. You might want to search the Messages for spinnaker. The Polls section show only one affirmative (assymetric) answer to the spinnaker question, but I think there's another who previously voted "planning" on it, who has one now. Also sounds like this newer member will go that way.
