I want to replace my manual system with 4:1 system. Who manufactured the track & car on my 322. It is 1.5 inch track with 1/8" lip. Thanks for any input.

Try calling D&R Marine in Mass. 508-644-3001. They have much O'Day parts information.

Question re: O Day 322

We've just started looking for a first family boat and I'm wondering if you can give me advice on purchasing a 322? I am an intermediate and my wife has novice sailing skills. We'd most likely use the boat for exploring the Chesapeake Bay on weekends. We are thinking to moor at/around Soloman's Island, MD. Thank you, Barry Levy 301.762.4755

deep six

I recently gave the original track the boot! Installed an ocean series by lewmar. had the thing bent and mounted over the companionway same as the old one. now i can make adjustments all day without breaking mine or anyone elses neck trying to move pins prior to tacking. the easier it is to make adjustments, the better sail trim is. i suggest getting radical with the old system.

O'day traveler track

Unless O'day changed suppliers along the line, the track for your manual system was made by Schaefer. The size, however, is discontinued and noone makes cars to fit it. One rigger gave me a quote for a sort of jerry-rigged system in which cars would be adapted to the track, but I wasn't comfortable with it. I bit the bullet and put in an entirely new Harken system. Since it is a mid-boom arrangement, the loads were on the margin between the mid-size and big-boat system (at least then--1995). I sprung for the big-boat system and have been very happy with it. I agree with the other response that the manual system is unsafe. The traveler is not adjustable at all in any kind of wind, and the trimmer is in an awkward and dangerous position over the companionway. My advice is scrap the system and start over.
