Tim, Mark, Bill, When trimming the mainsail, what should the telltales on the leech be doing? Also, is there any book you recommend for learning about sail shape and trim?

Hi Thomas, WM carries a book titled...

"The Best In Sail Trim". Do not remember the author, but I've read it three times. I highly recommend the book. Terry

Why go to WM. Don G's Guide right here is great

Its very easy to understand and very easily explained. Plus he even has a laminated 1 page chart (both sides) that you can buy to keep right in your cockpit. The "Guide" is more detailed but good spiral bound :book" Look at the link below

Highly recommend

I highly recommend the book by Don Guillette called the "Sail trim users guide" and the chart. The information contained in the book can be obtained by reading several other books but this one weeds out the non essential fluff that most cruising sailors don't need to know and explains it in simple terms. I ordered this book through this web site.

thomas, try sailingworld.com for sail trim info

Sailing World's web site as a limited but informative archive of past sail trim articles. In fact this month's mag has one that covers the jib. Great stuff. Ted

Telltales

Hi Thomas, Thanks for joining the Doyle Sails forum. I just wanted to respond so you didn't think we weren't paying attention. The advice and materials you have been led to by others responses are great, and I really can't add much more.
