Recently bought a 1989 Hunter 30 that had the mainsheet diverted from its original position through clutch to winch on starboard side of cabin roof, in order to accommodate a jiffy reefing line. The mainsheet no longer runs through the clutch to the winch but is moved to the right and is just secured to a cam cleat. Several fiddle-blocks between the boom and the cabin deck have been installed to make up for not having a winch to harden the main. Trouble is, that there is not enough purchases to manually harden the sheet in stiff wind and too many to ease the sail in limp winds; so much friction that you have to manually push the boom out. So I've decided to install an extra clutch on the port side (there is already a boom vang and a spinniker sheet there) to accommodate the reefing line and to return the mainsheet to its original location.
Question is, How many blocks, pulleys do I remove? What is the original configuration? How many purchases should the main sheet have between the traveler and the boom?

Mine has 3 blocks on the boom which makes it a 3:1 ( I think ) and it provides plenty of power to sheet in the main.
