I recently contacted Mike at Hunter and got a owner's manual for my 1994 H26. Pages are devoted to spinnaker setup and how to tie a cleat not, but no instructions on how to rig the mainsail. Per Mike at Hunter, the Doyle fully battened main was factory issue at the time. Does anyone know of available supplemental information on how to do this? This question comes from a previous post I submitted about a cunningham for a 1994 H26. I am going to try to attach a picture showing the luff in the main and the lack of attachment of the mainsheet at the tack. Notice the grommet at the tack. There is no means to attach it. I am pondering just lashing it to the boom. Any issues with doing this?

Mainsail Rigging

George, thanks for your response. This is great info. Is this the size of the shackle on your H26? Beyond the length of it, what size would you recommend? I'm thinking about just grabbing one from West Marine and trying it out.

Shackle

I have a H260 but I helped a friend rig his and as I recall it was the same setup. I've been looking for the part number but can't find it. Take the pic to West Marine that's where I got my replacement. Any two inch or longer shackle should work.

Buy several...

George is right - these little parts seem to have a way of flying out of my fat fingers. When I got the boat in 2004, I bought three of all these little items that are necessary to raise and rig the mast & sails. They aren't expensive, but can wreck a day's sail if lost. I believe I got them from both the spar manufacturer and Hunter. Boom gooseneck pins, mast step hinge pins, forestay pins, shackles - you name it, and lots of clevis and ring pins!
