I sent my sails in for cleaning and the mainsail came back with a modification???? (I think) At the clew for mainsail there is a metal U-shaped piece attached to clew on the bottom of the sail. The rope feed in the track stops just infront of this. I do not recall this piece being on the sail when I removed it. It appears to be for a sail slug or something like but I do not have one. HELP...the sail pulls out of the aft end of the boom when hoisted. It did not do this before the sail was removed. Was it modified? Did I lose a piece? or am I crazy.....Great weather, good winds, outhaul clew lashed to boom to keep it in. The sail looks really good but hate having to tie it to the boom, I think it looks tacky.....

Tack is attached to a pin at mast / boom junction.

Clew is then attached to the outhaul sheet (that runs inside the boom and is cleated at the mast. I'm not entirely sure what you are asking . . .the clew attachment point is usually a gromet in the corner of the sail. On my 23.5 the main clew does not reach the end of the boltrope track. The "u-shaped" device sounds like a reefing hook . . .usually near the boom/mast junction . . .and used to shorten the tack when reefed. I'm not sure we are speaking the same language . . .but I'll try to help . . .

Missing Slug

Go back to the sail cleaners and have them give you a new slug for the clew. It attaches with the shackle you now have on the sail. With the slug in the boom, your sail will stay in place.
