Can anyone tell me where to find/order a new mainsail for a Macgregor 26S. Thanks.

Air Force Sails

I had great luck with Air Force Sails. I changed literally every dimension and every attach point on my boat, and they made me a sail that fits beautifully. Cheaper than a Sailrite kit!

Dave, I spoke with a Macgregor dealer and he mentioned that most vendors(Doyle, Northern, UK etc.) order their sails from big manufacturers(plants) that do big runs in a mass quantity and then stamp their name on it. I'm thinking of ordering mine directly from the thesailwarehouse.com, their prices seem the most resonable, but it takes a month to turn. Their next run cutoff happens to be today. The guy I talked with was Jim, seemed like a nice guy. He answered all my questions. Good luck, -Sean

Sail Mods

Just one more thought on the ready made sails. They don'y necessarily incorporate details like power heads, full length battens, cunninghams, multiple reef points, etc. Also, a bigger sail will fit on your boat if you measure your own sails. If you usually sail in light airs, or if you get multiple reef points, perhaps you'd like a little more sail area to work with on your boat. My sail is taller and longer in the foor than the "stock" Mac sail. I have a loose-footed main. I have extra roach and a draft stripe. If you don't know what these terms mean, do yourself a favor and look up the definitions. Even things like battens and batten pockets vary widely by sail loft. I got all of these details and more for $650 with shipping. If your stock sail stayed with the boat 15+ years, just think how long you will have a new mainsail and wish you'd gotten your own details made to fit your boat. John S Boise

John S - Mac Main Sail

The costs vary($520-815), but they allow for ad-ons like you mentioned, stripes, telltale windows, numbers, etc, I believe they also allow for you're own measurements. If you visit their site, thesailwarehouse.com, you can select your own specified boat and choose the type of sail you're looking for and it'll give you a list of results for Racing, Off-shore/Performance, Standard OEM with full battens, coastal, etc. I'm looking for a 150 Genoa, and they seem to be the cheapest one's out there. -Sean

Head Sail -

I just placed my order, I'm sure I got too much sail for my boat(mac 26S), but I figure it's something to work up to! I hope my hard earned bux, didn't just end up in that infinite hole that everyone talks about! It cost $770 including shipping....okay guise let me have it...

Genoa

That sounds like a great price. What weight of material did you select? If you don't get them with it, $5 will buy tell tales which will really help you set your sails. I was amazed at how much differently I sheet in my new main cause it has tell tales and my original sail did not, I sheet it in a whole lot LESS than I used to (without tell tales)!

Tell Tale - Genoa

It's a 5 ounce Dacron with the Sunbrella UV protection and it comes with tell tales as part of the standard equip. I need to put some tell tales on my Main, I'm sure I'll notice the difference. I guess one good thing about sailing without the tell tales first is that you get a feel for the boat without always looking for the markers, it helps you look more at the shape of the sail(and hopefully the feel I've grown accustomed to isn't totally wrong) :) I can't wait till it comes in, unfortunately their turn is over a month...that's probably the same with most sail lofts during this time of year...so for now the hank on jib will have to do. Has anyone installed a secondary head stay? So incase the winds are too heavy and I want to reef my new Genoa, I could raise my old hank on jib? -Sean
