I recently bought a Mariner. The previous owner had build his own mainsail - boom cover, but it is both ugly and poorly fitting. I want to buy a new one, and was wondering if anyone has any experience with a generic cover (i.e. from WestMarine, etc.) or experience with getting a custom cover built at a canvas shop. Thanks. Sail covers

However you go about this, sail covers are expensive. I would consider building one with a kit from sailrite if you are at all handy. If not, a generic one from West Marine or similar would be adjustable to fit. I would not go custom unless price is not an issue - it always is for me. Justin - O'day Owners' Web

another vote for sailrite

i just built a mainsail cover for a friend's CandC 40 with a kit from sailrite. Cost with no labor was about 175 and it came out great. plus i added custom features like a velcro fastened flap over the zipper on the front of the mast to protect the zipper from sunlight. for a small boat like the mariner 19 the boom must be about 8 feet long??? and this size is easy to work with and will probably cost under a hundred bucks. if you have an old one then just buy sunbrella material and use the old one for a pettern. very easy to assemble!!! dave

Cover from Stuart Marine

Stuart Marine, the current maker of the Mariner, sells a Mainsail cover for $225 or a Boom/Cockpit tent for $375. They SHOULD fit well. I am sure that they would be happy to send you a parts/price list (it is well worth having). You may email them at stuart@midcoast.com
