Mainsail clew attachment..

Hi All,
had the shakedown cruise today after 3 years on land.
Due to being struck by lightning I had the mast, boom, and sails off during that time.

Putting the boom and mainsail back on, I found no obvious place to attach the main clew.

???

what am i missing?

I have a curly hook attached/thru bolted to the boom end flange as well as a small shackle attached slightly lower on the boom end casting. Hard to explain kind of. Sorry everybody. its been 3 years. Substitute the word tack for the word clew.The attachment right at the boom-mast intersection.ghSent from my iPhone

There is a fitting on the boom and a fitting on the mast. They are joined by a pin. The pin has a hole through it. Instead of using a carter pin to keep the pin in place use a small shackle. Use another shackle or a piece of line to attach the sail tack to the boom.

So like a clevis pin with a large hole in it at the topmost end? A hole big enough for a shackle?My boom and mast fittings look like a standard clevis pin affairSent from my iPhone

Are yu suggesting replacing the "pin" with a mall shackle ? There is a small hole for a cotter pin, but shackle will definitely not fit thru that hole. Or should the pin be replaced by a small shackle ?MSG Frank Gallardo Jr.

Yes, the hole in the pin goes up. Then use the pin from the shackle to hold the clevis pin from falling out.
